Senát podle očekávání neschválil vládní návrh ústavního zákona o všelidovém hlasování. Pravidla a podmínky pro vypsání referenda byly v předloze podle většiny senátorů nastaveny příliš volně.

As expected, the Senate rejected the Government's proposal for a new referendum bill arguing that the rules were too lax. This follows many years of public debate in the Czech Republic regarding the role of direct democracy in the Czech political system where most decisions (including the election of a president) are left to the parliament. The arguments are not dissimilar to those used in Britain, another country in which the use of a referenda is severly limited.
