Czech Republic lacks conditions for women's entry into politics, association says - Prague Daily Monitor
In the Czech Republic there are no conditions for women to enter politics, Czech Women's Association (CSZ) Zdenka Hajna told CTK yesterday, adding that the representation of women in parliament and other bodies would not increase without temporary positive discrimination measures.
Czech Republic has a proud tradition of women's rights with a healthy suffrage movement from the mid 1800s to the enactment of universal suffrage in 1918, at the country's founding. However, no proper feminist movement emerged in the second half of the 20th century and as such women's equality is only superficial with the rights enshrined in law (and more or less enforced) but not reflected in societal mores.
