www.lidovky.cz - Poslanci chtějí dny vzdělanosti, Lidic a rodin
Do kalendáře státních svátků a takzvaných významných dnů zřejmě přibudou další tři položky. Dnem vzdělanosti by se měl stát 7. duben, 10. červen, by připomínal vyhlazení Lidic a 15. květen by se změnil na Den rodin.

Three new 'days of national significance, which are just like national holidays without the time off work, have been suggested by the Lower Chamber of the Czech Parliament and are now awaiting awaiting approval by the Senate.

They are:

  • 7 April - Day of Learning - remembering the founding of Charles University in 1348 by Charles IV. (then called simply Prague University).
  • 10 June - commemoration of the destruction and extermination of Lidice in 1942 by the SS following the assasination of the then Reich protektor Reinhard Heydrich
  • 15 May - Family day - the meaning of this is selfecplanatory. (It was proposed by a Christian Democrat to be in sync with the UN international family day that "reflects the importance the international community assigns to families as the basic units of society." Unlike the other two, which were proposed by the Social Democrats and the Communists.)
