he average gross monthly wage in the Czech Republic grew by CZK 1,099 year-on-year to CZK 18,833 in the third quarter of 2005, the Czech Statistical Office CSU said today.

Of course, the prices of many goods (such as electronics) are equivalent to those in countries where the average wages are much higher. But the cost of basic living (food and housing) is still much lower, as any tourist marvelling over cheap beer will attest.
