Přijde k nám Mikuláš
Mikuláš, čert i anděl k počátku prosince neodmyslitelně patří. Dostane se do ulic každého města, každé vesnice, každému dítěti nechá něco za oknem i v tom nevyjšším paneláku ve dvacátém patře. Pro malé dítě je to zázrak.
Yet, again, it is time for Svatý Mikuláš. An evening of terror for little children, terrorism for older children and nostalgia for adults. Why do I say terrorism? As I wrote a year ago, on the Eve of the day of St Nicholas, Czech streets are teeming with red-clad bishops accompanied by an angel and one or more devils. Each of these is accompanied by a cloud (like a comet) of rowdy children who, as the night goes on become progressively more violent. But its also an opportunity for children (and in this case just the children) to receive small gifts. Sort of a dry run for Christmas.
