Co vím o Češích? Nic, a nechci vědět - iDNES.cz
Co vše vědí občané ve "starých" členských státech Evropské unie o Češích, zjišťoval v několika z nich reportér MF DNES. Výsledek?
An informal survey conducted by a reporter from MF Dnes found that not much is known about the Czech Republic in the old Europe. The Germans see us as better than the Poles (maybe having less of a guilt towards the Czechs) and are mostly reminded of Prague and prostitution on the Czech-German border. The French, on the other hand, often don't even know the Czech Republic is in the EU. Brits are usually happy with Czech workers but often fail to distinguish them from other "Eastern" Europeans. Also, Czech football (soccer) has a much better reputation.
An interesting culture clash was experienced by hotel owners in the Netherlands.
A pak šibalsky zamrká: "Místní úplně nechápou, proč jim Češi už po pěti minutách konverzace kladou osobní otázky. Například kolik mají dětí a podobně."
The locals were puzzled by the sorts of personal questions Czechs tended to ask, such as how many children they have.
All of this may seem depressing and proof of the failing educational systems around the world to your average Czech who knows that Czechs are the greatest nation on Earth. However, ask a Czech anything about Sweden or the difference between Catalunya and Castille in Spain or the differences between the north and south in the UK and they will prove just as ignorant of people from these places as they are of them.
