Number of permanent residents of Prague's centre dropping - Prague Daily Monitor
PRAGUE, Jan 12 (CTK) - The number of permanent residents in the centre of the Czech capital has been dropping since the fall of the Communist regime in 1989, the daily Lidove noviny (LN) writes today. Some 32,000 people officially live in the 1st Prague district, which forms the city's centre, while it was about 40,000 in 1989.
Czechs move out of the centre because of the lack of shops, parking problems, too much noise and in some areas also because they feel unsafe. Last but not least, house owners forced the tenants to move out.
It's no surprise. Living in a fairytale museum (which is what the center of Prague is) with a lot of gawkers around probably isn't as easy as it may seem. Plus a lot of the city center has been taken over by multinational shops.
