Spory na Wikipedii aneb válka o "h" - LUPA
Ačkoliv se řada polemik týkala i obsahu jednotlivých hesel, hlavním tématem byl stále pravopis. Debata vedla k předložení několika návrhů závazných pravopisných pravidel.

An interesting article (in Czech) about debates (sometimes more fiery than necessary) on Czech Wikipedia. What is interesting from the perspective of this blog is that the most serious debates that actually resulted in people leaving the fold or being banned were focused on spelling. The Czech word for speling is pravopis actually parses as correct writing and is a very contentious issue in Czech language politics. The debates were between traditionalists and progressivists in one area and liberals and regulationists in another.

1. traditionalists vs. progressivists:
Many traditionalists believe that certain words (almost exclusively loan words) should be spelled closer to the spelling of the original as they were up to the 1940s or so. Progressivists, on the other hand, argue that words should be spelled closer to the way they are pronounced, thus maintaining their correspondence to Czech pronunciation. (Neither camp maintains this for all possible words.) An example could be words like diskuse/diskuze or teorie/theorie.

2. liberals vs. regulationists
These two camps don't correspond to to the other two. Liberals (in the context of Wikipedia) believe that contributors can adhere to either traditional or progressive spelling as long as it remains consistent within an entry and/or adheres to the conventions of a given professional area. Regulationists maintain that spelling must in all cases adhere to the rules set out in Pravidla českého pravopisu (Czech spelling manual [lit. rules]) that is published and updated by the Czech Language Institute. This debate has long roots described in great detail in an upcoming book by Neil Bermel.
