EU criticises Czech Republic, Slovakia for segregating Romanies - Prague Daily Monitor
The Vienna-based European Monitoring Centre on Racism and Xenophobia (EUMC) has criticised the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Hungary for segregating Romanies, primarily in the access to education, the centre says in its annual report released these days.
Another story about the same problem. Interestingly, on the same day, Czech media reported about a Czech Roma man who became a community police liaison in the UK. He fled Ostrava with his parents some years ago in fear of his life. He says he is considering returning back to the Czech Republic with his wife. I wonder if he would be making the right decision - particularly given that the number of Romanies working for the Czech police could probably be counted on the fingers of one hand.
