Times-Standard Online - Czech humor might be the best defense against terror For the uninitiated, Czech humor is a special blend of irony and black comedy. Its favorite targets are bureaucracy, arrogance, deception, any form of authority, and takes its edge from the well-known fate of even the best intentions. Disasters, fiascoes, tragedies -- things Czechs are quite familiar with, are fair game.I think America could use a strong dose of Czech humor, especially in these terror-ridden times.
Here's a little snippet from an interesting treatise on Czech culture from an American teaching English in Prague. It is true that black humor is close to Czech hearts (thus the extreme popularity of Monty Python) but I'm afraid the author has fallen for Czech self-advertising a little bit.
