Počet Čechů, kteří by homosexuálním párům umožnili adoptovat děti, vzrostl. Vyplynulo to z průzkumu společnosti RCA Research. Pro umožnění adopcí se vyslovilo 39 procent respondentů. V roce 2005 s ní souhlasilo o dvanáct procent méně.

Češi: rozvodoví rekordmani - Žena.cz Pevný manželský svazek vydrží v České republice jen zhruba třetině párů. Na každých 100 sňatků připadá celkem 67 rozvodových řízení. Češi jsou tak spolu s Belgičany a Estonci s přehledem "šampiony" v rozvodech v rámci celé Evropské unie.

Given the low religiosity of Czechs, it should perhaps not be surprising that the divorce rate is rather high. Two in three marriages end in divorce (67 divorces per 100 weddings - the EU average is 40). Czechs are bested only by Estonians and Belgians .  read more »

More than 200 gay and lesbian couples registered their partnerships in the Czech Republic in the past six months, Prague Radio said Tuesday.

Jiri Hromada, of the Gay Initiative, said his non-governmental organization had expected "much less interest" in registered same-sex marriages, the Czech Mlada Fronta Dnes newspaper reported.

Czech Republic enters 2007 with 200 gay couples more (up from zero) than last year. What surprises me is that the number is relatively small and that the Gay Initiative expected even less. Part of the problem may be that gay unions are denied the right to adopt children.  read more »

Poslanecká sněmovna parlamentu se zapojuje – protože musí, neboť její pánské vedení by to asi dobrovolně ani nenapadlo – do evropské kampaně proti násilí na ženách. Nezdá se to, ale Česká republika je, ač malá, přesto, co do násilí na ženách, výrazná. Zatímco evropský průměr, uváděný v materiálech Rady Evropy, je 12-15 procent žen, které se s násilím setkají, podle posledního průzkumu z roku 2003 (protože později již patrně nikomu nestálo za to jej dělat), se s násilím vůči sobě setkalo 38 procent českých žen.  read more »

Ve srovnání příjmů profesí se podle šetření Českého statistického úřadu liší platy žen a mužů o pětinu. Při srovnání průměrů, v nichž už jsou i platy superplacených manažerů, je rozdíl v neprospěch žen ještě vyšší, 25 procent.

Podle statistiků souvisí platové rozdíly s tím, že ženy často pracují ve špatně hodnocených "ženských" oborech, jako je školství nebo zdravotnictví, v méně platících firmách a ještě v rámci firem jsou opět na hůře hodnocených postech v administrativě. Ale také v případě profesí lékařů či soudců, kde jsou nejčastěji v nižších funkcích.Přímo v jednom podniku na stejných místech pak mívají ženy o desetinu nižší hodinovou mzdu než jejich kolegové.  read more »

Přesně na Mezinárodní den žen dostala společnost Pražská teplárenská neobvyklý dárek od své zaměstnankyně. Marie Čauševičová (51) dala firmu k soudu za to, že ji nechtěla jmenovat finanční ředitelkou. Je to první případ v Česku, kdy bude soud řešit spor o diskriminaci podle pohlaví.

Lowest number of women in Czech post-communist history to run for parliament - 24-01-2006 - Radio Prague
Only some 15 percent of Czech MPs are women and there are just two women ministers in the 17-member cabinet. The situation is unlikely to change after this year's parliamentary elections because - as the existing candidate lists suggest - the lowest number of women since the fall of communism will be running for seats in the lower house. Manželka premiéra, si myslí, že ženy do politiky nepatří. Paroubková se nikdy netajila tím, že je jí blízká role ženy, která dělá zázemí svému muži, aby on mohl jít za kariérou.

Zuzana Paroubková, the wife of the Czech Prime Minister Jiří Paroubek, caused a bit of an uproar with her recent statement that women don't belong in politics ('ženy do politiky nepatří'). She expressed very traditional views about women in politics in her interview for the Czech 24 hour news network. This reflects nicely some of the views about women in politics still held by many (if probably not most) Czechs, men and women. Her reason was that women have too many other concerns in their lives and they could not be sufficiently impartial. The Prime Minister was quick to point out that he doesn't share his wife's views and thinks there should be more women in politics. He admitted, though, that he was unsuccessful in his efforts to recruit more women candidates for his Social Democrats in the upcoming general elections.  read more »
