What are the main difficulties you face as a student of the Czech language?

Please list 3 items that make learning difficult.

It can be anything related to the language itself, but also issues such as availability of useful textbooks, quality of tutoring, etc.

Hi,

I have started studyign Czech very recenly, about one week ago. As for me, the first difficult was to find textbooks. Once I am Brazilian, first I tried to find something in Portuguese, but I had no luck - even in Brazilian and either in Portuguese bookshops´ website -, then I thought in Spanish - because the structure of Spanish is very close to Portuguese, so it would help me a lot, but I found nothing very good. Therefore, I had to stay with the English textbooks. I gathered some information about many avaiables and according to what I could order in Brazilian bookshops - in websites such Amazon.com it would be much more expensive - and then I chose "Teach yourself Czech" by David Short and the "Essential grammar" by James Naughton.

Untill now what scared me most was some features of pronnunciations such as "h" x "ch" and the "ř". Grammar is not simple indeed, but I think I can handle it with some efforts.

Due to money and time I do not intend to take regular classes of Czech, and even if I wanted to, I am not sure if I could find a course here in Rio de Janeiro. I know that there is one in São Paulo. However, I intened to try to find some private teacher to give me some classes in the future, to tell me how I am going, give pronnunciation tips and so on.

When I have more time of study I tell more about how I am going on Czech studying.

Good bye.:

Ahoj,

I have found the pronunciation of some of the Czech words very difficult, especially the ones that have the r with the hacek above it. I cannot make the correct sounds no matter how much I try.
