Links to Online Resources on Czech
The purpose of this collection of links is very specific. They have the language learner and student of Czech culture in mind. Some of them require a certain level of Czech from beginner to advanced, although many contain information in English. The sites listed are from all around the world but most of them come from the Czech Republic, USA, and the UK. Because of the interest a section of links relevant for tourists and expatriates living in Prague has also been added. The links are sorted in alphabetical order.
Czech Internet under the domain .cz contains many extremely useful resources and is growing at a rapid pace. The links listed here are thought to be of direct interest to learners. Thousands of other resources can be found through portals and search engines .

- Open source online dictionary which will translate entire pages as well as individual words. (Interface in Czech)
- A site designed to sell more powerful dictionaries in software form. This free on-line version nonetheless gives access to a reasonable range of Czech-English-Czech equivalents. Plus it is the only online dictionary to distinguish between parts of speech.
- A decent English/Czech - Czech/English dictionary. Contains an ingenious system for typing in letters with accents for those without a Czech keyboard.
- Multilingual Dictionary and Translator also available as a commercial application. It translates between Czech and six other languages: English, German, French, Spanish, Italian and Russian. Note: To reverse the direction of translation click on button Otoč.
- Release in 1999 written by Josef Fronek, this is the only dictionary worth anything for serious language learning.
- A list of most common words in Czech (sorted by nouns, adjectives, verbs and pairs of words).
- A complete online version of the Czech spelling rules including a searchable database. An essential site for anybody who writes in Czech but could also be of use to beginner and intermediate students who want to check their spelling.
- A cute picture dictionary offering the most basic vocabulary with hand-drawn illustrations.
- Moravia Translations provide a decent dictionary. It tends to show less frequent equivalents first, however. Also contains a description of the Czech alphabet. The company specializes in software localization.
- Czech to Czech dictionary of medicine.
- Czech dictionary publisher Leda which offers dictionaries both in print and on CD-ROM.
- A group of Czech/English translators discussing problems with translating from Czech into English.
- A decent online dictionary which doesn't use diacritics, however (could be a plus if you're not sure about a particular Czech word). Also contains a German/Czech dictionary.
- A page (including a short dictionary) describing the differences between Prague Czech and various Moravian dialect.
- Alternative Czech Dictionary of about 34 vulgarisms translated into English. Uses peculiar transliteration. Contains vulgarisms in a number of other languages.
- Online automatic translator from English into Czech. Its output is of limited use.
- Basic Czech phrases with sound plus an online dictionary using a peculiar transcription system. (Also available for many other languages.)
- German-Czech Dictionary offered by an electronic dictionary maker.
- Although it brands itself a full language course, this is too ambitious. But it can be recommended as an interesting vocabulary building aid which may be very useful to some users. It introduces Czech words through associations with English words and phrases. No grammar is mentioned. Only a sample is free but a full course can be had for relatively little (under US$10).
- James Naughton's page offers a learner's dictionary to download and use offline. Also many classical Czech texts with annotations and translations.
- A number of tests and quizzes for vocabulary and phrase between many languages. Includes correct answers but is not interactive.
